USAJOBS Federal Resume Basics for Fort Sill Applicants
A USAJOBS federal resume must prove you meet the specialized experience in the job announcement, in two pages or less. For each job, list month and year start and end dates, hours per week, and duties that match the announcement's words. Federal reviewers check boxes, so if a qualification is not clearly on the page, they will assume you do not have it.
Start with the announcement, not your old resume
Open the job announcement and find three sections: Duties, Qualifications (especially Specialized Experience) and How You Will Be Evaluated. Copy them into a document. These tell you exactly what the reviewer is looking for. Your resume is a response to that list.
Respect the two-page limit
Since September 27, 2025, USAJOBS has limited resumes to two pages for federal jobs, under OPM's Merit Hiring Plan (see OPM's guidance at opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/hiring-information/merit-hiring-plan-resources). OPM says a resume longer than two pages can make you ineligible. A few agencies outside the standard Title 5 rules, or jobs that need a CV, may ask for longer documents, so always follow the announcement. Then cut anything that does not support the job. Older or unrelated roles can be shortened to one line or removed.
Required details for every job
For each position, include your job title, employer, month and year start and end dates, and average hours per week. Reviewers use these to decide if you have one full year of experience at the next lower grade. Missing hours or dates can cost you a qualification even if the experience is real. If a series or grade applies, list it.
Match specialized experience in plain words
If the announcement says "experience managing property accountability records," your resume should say something close to that, not just "supply sergeant." Use the same terms, then back them up with results: how many items, what dollar value, what outcome. Keep each bullet specific and easy to scan.
Write for a reader who is not in the Army
Many federal HR specialists are civilians. Spell out acronyms the first time, or swap them for plain terms. "Led a 12-person team" is clearer than a unit abbreviation.
Do not forget the questionnaire
Most announcements include a self-assessment questionnaire. Your answers must be supported by your resume. If you rate yourself as an expert on a task, a bullet on your resume should show it.
Final checks
Remove your Social Security number and anything not needed. Save as PDF if the system accepts it, and upload any documents the announcement requires, such as a DD-214 or transcripts. Redleg Resumes writes a full resume for $99 or reviews your current one for $49. You get your first draft within 48 hours, up to 2 rounds of edits, and a PayPal invoice only after you're happy with it. Fort Sill Patriot Spouses Club members get $10 off.
